Overview
museo is an app for finding inspiration. You can browse art, artists, and museums, search across all three, filter by what you’re after, or let the inspiration finder hand you something at random. It grew out of my background in art history and my work as a graphic designer, and I designed every screen myself.
The problem
Most art databases are built for researchers, not for browsing. I wanted something closer to a gallery visit, where you wander, stumble on something, and want to keep looking.
My approach
- A grid that feels like a wall of work. The art, artist, and museum indexes use a masonry layout so images keep their own proportions instead of being cropped to a uniform box.
- Custom hover states. Each card responds to the cursor, which makes browsing feel tactile.
- Moving past the template. My first versions looked like a plain Bootstrap site. I rebuilt the interface in custom CSS and kept Bootstrap only for basic structure, so the finished app has its own look.
- Discovery built in. Search, filters, and a random-pick inspiration finder give people several ways to find something unexpected.
Reflection
museo pushed me to close the gap between what I could design and what I could build. It taught me to treat the interface as something I could shape directly in code, and it’s the project where my design and technical work first came together.
